New Product Development (NPD) has transitioned from a linear, sequential process to a dynamic, iterative, and digitally enabled strategic capability that shapes organisational competitiveness in rapidly evolving markets. This article introduces a comprehensive, theoretically grounded framework for managing NPD from initial ideation through market launch and post-launch optimisation. Drawing on foundational innovation management theory, recent empirical research, and emerging scholarship on digital transformation and artificial intelligence in product development, the article synthesizes four critical dimensions: the strategic foundations of NPD, including market research, idea generation, and cross-functional collaboration; concept development and feasibility analysis, encompassing market sizing, financial viability, technical feasibility, and intellectual property protection; product development and testing, integrating design engineering, manufacturing considerations, and iterative validation; and launch and commercialization, covering go-to-market strategy, sales and distribution management, and ongoing post-launch improvement. The analysis demonstrates that organisations achieving superior NPD outcomes consistently combine structured process discipline with adaptive agility, data-driven customer insights, and cross-departmental collaboration. This article advances innovation management theory by connecting classical NPD models, particularly the Stage-Gate framework, with contemporary digital transformation imperatives, and proposes an integrated model for practitioners navigating the complexities of innovation in an era defined by artificial intelligence, open innovation, and sustainability-oriented value creation.
