Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital research technologies has transformed healthcare administration research through innovative approaches to data collection, management, analysis, and evidence generation. As healthcare systems become increasingly data-driven, AI-powered tools such as machine learning, predictive analytics, natural language processing, electronic health records, and big data platforms are enhancing researchers’ ability to address complex administrative challenges. This seminar paper examined the role of AI and digital research technologies in healthcare administration research, focusing on their opportunities, methodological challenges, and ethical implications. Using a conceptual and literature-based approach, the study reviewed relevant theoretical and empirical literature. The Diffusion of Innovations Theory and the Technology Acceptance Model were examined, with the Diffusion of Innovations Theory adopted due to its broader explanatory power regarding technology adoption and integration. Findings revealed that AI and digital technologies enhance research efficiency, data management, predictive analytics, real-time monitoring, evidence-based decision-making, big data analysis, and global collaboration. However, significant methodological challenges persist, including data quality issues, algorithmic bias, limited transparency and explain ability, reproducibility concerns, and disparities in digital capacity. Ethical considerations such as privacy, confidentiality, informed consent, fairness, accountability, cybersecurity, and governance were also identified as critical to the responsible use of AI in healthcare research. The paper concludes that while AI and digital technologies offer substantial potential to advance healthcare administration research and improve healthcare systems, their effective integration requires methodological rigor, robust ethical safeguards, transparent governance, continuous capacity building, and adequate technological infrastructure. The paper recommends increased investment in digital infrastructure, enhanced researcher training, stronger ethical and regulatory frameworks, the promotion of explainable and trustworthy AI systems, and greater interdisciplinary collaboration.
