                  abstract = {This study investigates the impact of small-scale industries (SSIs) on the economic development of Port Harcourt City, Rivers State, Nigeria. While macroeconomic growth strategies historically favored capital-intensive large-scale enterprises, persistent structural deficits—including high unemployment and systemic poverty—necessitate an assessment of localized, labor-intensive alternatives. Utilizing a descriptive survey research design, data were gathered via structured questionnaires from a sample size of 300 registered operators and employees calculated using the Yamane formula from an institutional population profile. The specific development indicators examined include employment generation, poverty reduction, life expectancy improvements, and school enrolment metrics. Chi-square (X2) statistical analysis was utilized to test the research hypotheses. The empirical findings indicate a strong, positive, and statistically significant relationship between small-scale industrial operations and localized economic development indices. The study concludes that strategic structural support, expansionary micro-credit provisioning, and policy-driven infrastructural stabilization for SSIs are critical pathways for mitigating urban poverty and accelerating sub-national economic development in Nigeria.},
