Abstract

Software testing is crucial for ensuring the quality, performance, security, and reliability of software systems. Traditional manual and early automated testing methods are increasingly insufficient due to escalating software complexity and rapid release cycles (Agile, DevOps). Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers a transformative approach to these challenges. This review provides an in-depth understanding of AI in software testing, examining techniques like Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Reinforcement Learning (RL) across the testing lifecycle. It presents a comparative analysis highlighting AI's quantitative and qualitative improvements over conventional methods, focusing on AI-driven innovations in test case design, test data generation, and validation. The paper also discusses challenges such as data dependency, model explainability, integration complexities, and ethical considerations. Finally, it explores the futuristic growth of AI in software testing, including autonomous QA agents and synergistic integration with emerging technologies, underscoring AI's pivotal role in shaping the future of quality assurance.
